Here at Blakemore United Methodist Church, we are pleased to be able to offer two need-based scholarships to individuals pursuing studies at colleges and universities. To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants may be of any age, and must have been active in a Nashville-area United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to applying.
In 2023 there were no scholarships awarded due to the limited available funds in the specific scholarship in question. Please review the criteria for each scholarship and evaluate those against likely short term careers vs those that may require more time to attain. For that reason applicants who are college juniors or above, please update your application essay to address current job status or any revised potential careers.
The Dorothy Knowles College scholarship is open to anyone who is a member of a Nashville-area UMC church attending an accredited college or university.
The Guy and Margaret Smith College Scholarship is available to those who are enrolled in an area of study for a career in a service-related field such as teaching, social work, health care, ministry, or counseling.
Middle school or high school age students who are going to church based camps this summer may apply for financial aid from the Ruth Walker Fund by sending a copy of camp application with fee amount to Diane Lee-Smith.
Application deadline is May 30, 2024.
A panel of 5 members of the church will review the applications, and applicants will be notified of the results by the middle of June.
